Many homeowners in America choose asphalt shingles because they are cost-effective and attractive at the same time. But before you invest in an asphalt shingle roof, you need to consider several factors to ensure you choose a roofing service and roof that is high quality.

Consider these factors before you choose your asphalt shingle roof.

1. Color

The color of your asphalt shingles might be more important than you think. You need to choose a color that is energy efficient and a match for both your home and the other homes in your neighborhood.

Lighter colors reflect more UV light to help keep your home cool. So if you want to keep your home cool in the summer, invest in light-colored asphalt shingles. And if you aren't sure what color might work well with your home and the surrounding area, look at the other houses in your neighborhood. You'll get a good idea of which color roofs work well with your home's style and environment.

2. Style

Asphalt shingles come in a variety of styles too. For instance, you can choose from 3-tab shingles, slate shingles, and architectural shingles. Each of these styles has its own appeal, so make sure you choose a style that complements your home's existing style well. Again, you can look at the other home's in your neighborhood to see which roof styles are most used.

3. Impact resistance

Do you live in an area that experiences regular hailstorms? Then consider the impact resistance of your asphalt shingles. Impact-resistant shingles usually have a class-4 rating, and they are made with mesh or rubber-like polymers as well as asphalt. The higher the impact resistance of asphalt shingles, the better protected your roof will be in severe weather systems.

4. Wind resistance

Asphalt shingles also need to be strong enough to stand up to high winds, especially if you live on the coast. Ask your roofer about the wind resistance capability of their shingle roofing systems. This is an important consideration if your area experiences frequent storms throughout the year.

5. Warranty

There are several different types of roof warranties. Be sure that you study each one before you approach a roofing company. For instance, you have the roofer's warranty and the shingle manufacturer's warranty. Make sure you choose a roofer that gives you a fair warranty, so you can be sure you get a roof that lasts.
