Fading

Expansion and Contraction

The sun can cause your roof to expand and contract. However, your heated roof will cause the oils to evaporate. 

Thin and Brittle Shingles and Tiles

UV rays are invisible but can cause damage to a roof over time. Roof tiles and shingles eventually break down. Shingles might warp and may become less effective at protecting your roof from the rain. Depending on the type of roof you have, some sections of your roof can become thin and brittle. This can make the roof more vulnerable to damage caused by strong winds and flying debris.

A Worn Out Protective Coating

Your roof needs a protective coating to make sure that it is shielded from the elements. However, UV radiation can cause the protective coating to dry out. Then, your roof will not be protected from harsh elements. For example, the coating might crack and peel leaving an opportunity for moisture to cause damage to your roof.
